I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.  And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things (2 Peter 1:13-15 ESV). 

Christian tradition holds that the apostle Peter was crucified in Rome around 68 AD.  The words above were written by Peter to early Christian believers not long before his death.  We all know Peter – his brashness, his pride, his great failure on the night of Christ’s arrest and his bitter repentance (Matt. 26:69-75).  As we glimpse his life through the pages of the New Testament most of all we see his humanity.  He was, like us, a complex mixture…
